Role 

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across the design, integration, testing, and support of electrical systems used within mission-critical defence environments.

You will play a key role in leading engineering activities, supporting project delivery, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring systems are delivered to the highest technical, safety, and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, integration, and implementation of electrical systems for defence and communication platforms.
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance across electrical engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support the integration of electrical systems into wider network and communication architectures.
  • Lead system installation, configuration, testing, and acceptance activities.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex electrical and systems-related issues.
  • Produce and review technical documentation including schematics, test procedures, reports, and design packs.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable electrical regulations, safety standards, and defence requirements.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, project managers, suppliers, and customers to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, engineering best practice, and innovation activities.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers and technicians.
  • Contribute technical expertise to bids, proposals, and future capability development activities where required.

Person specification

Qualifications & experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience within electrical engineering, ideally within defence, aerospace, communications, systems integration, or other highly regulated environments.
  • Experience designing, integrating, and supporting complex electrical systems.
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, system integration, and network infrastructures.
  • Experience working with electrical schematics, technical drawings, and engineering documentation.
  • Knowledge of relevant UK electrical standards, safety regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience supporting testing, fault finding, and system acceptance activities.
  • Experience working within project-based engineering environments.
  • Experience within the defence sector and familiarity with secure or mission-critical systems is highly desirable.

Work schedule: Full-time role based in St Athan with occasional travel to business and customer sites, as well as the United States.
